MY STORY (continued from front page)
The principal of Rancho Buena Vista High School where my children attend, suggested I call the cross-town rival high school, Vista High's principal, to see if they were interested in having CHARACTER COUNTS!SM taught at their school.
They were very interested so I met with the principal and the vice principal and shared with them all of the benefits of the program. They too wanted to send a core group of teachers and coaches to be trained and certified.
The next thing we needed was money to finance the project. Both high schools, along with the Vista Unified School District director and myself agreed to apply for a Federal grant that funded character education in schools. Waiting for the results of the Grant can take a long time so my husband, Greg, and I decided to speed things up by financially contributing to the teachers and coaches by getting them certified immediately. We feel strongly about bringing CHARACTER COUNTS!SM to our hometown of Vista that we felt it was the best thing we could do to get the program rolling.
Mid-June, a football coach and teacher, the director of ASB, Greg and myself became certified with Pursuing Victory With HonorSM. Early August, 8 teachers and coaches from both high schools were certified in CHARACTER COUNTS!SM
Greg and I had accomplished our goal to bring character education to the Vista Unified School District and our children's school. These 10 instructors became the core group and founding fathers for the two high schools. They have been training the other teachers and coaches at their schools so all of the faculty have the benefit of learning how to teach the students the Six Pillars of CharacterSM.
We believe that if children are taught to know the difference between right and wrong they will make good moral and ethical decisions and choices that will have a positive affect on their behavior for the rest of their lives!
CHARACTER COUNTS!SM, Six Pillars of CharacterSM, and Pursuing Victory With HonorSM are service marks of the Josephson Institute of Ethics.
